Concentration camps are a concentration of all people of one type, in this case, the Jewish people. The Nazi’s placed people in the camps that were considered undesirable. This included mentally disabled people, criminals, homosexuals and especially Jewish people.
By the end of World War ll, The Nazi’s had established 40,000 camps that stretched across Europe. For the most part, the camps were filled with Jewish people, but individuals were arrested for reasons such as ethnicity and political affiliation. Prisoners were subject to unimaginable horrors immediately after arrival at the camps.
Only those who were unfit for labour were killed, those who could work for the Nazi’s were kept alive for their services. Many prisoners in concentration camps died of deliberate maltreatment, which included disease, starvation and overwork. Others were killed by gas showers or by gunshots.
Concentration camps were institutions that were torturous toward Jewish people. Many Jewish people watched their friends and family die in concentration camps and experienced mentally compromising acts. The physical demand put upon the Jewish people was fatal. The Nazi’s were out of touch with human feeling and brainwashed by Hitler’s political and religious leadership.
